What is on-page SEO?

Written by Sherlock Holmes

Within SEO, we distinguish between on page SEO and off page SEO. But just what is the difference between these factors? You can actually tell from the name of the beast: On page SEO involves all the optimization factors within the content of your website, the content, images, internal links, metadata and more…These factors are the easiest to adjust yourself. Opportunities to improve on-page elements are therefore also checked first in virtually every SEO check.

So on page SEO is about all the information/data you see on the front end (front end) of your website. Be it a page, a post, an image, a hyperlink, a video and more. The most important factor is value and relevance to your potential visitors. On page SEO should also improve the user experience by, for example, providing clarity on your product or service or serving as a guide in the online buying process. In the latter case, we speak of conversion optimization.

The components of on page SEO:

  1. The use of headings (tags like H1, H2, H3, etc.)
  2. The use of paragraphs
  3. The structure of the URL
  4. The length of your texts
  5. The metadata (meta title, meta description, ALT text)
  6. Using the right keywords in all the above elements!
  7. The quality of images / videos / infographics
  8. The weight of your media
  9. The hyperlinks between different pages
  10. De oproep tot actie
  11. The loading speed of your website
  12. The usability of your website on mobile

The easiest on page SEO adjustments with the most impact and thus most important to remember:

  • Google likes long texts and thus looks at what is called “word count.”
Pages that rank at the top of search results have an average of between 1,140 and 1,285 words.
  • Think about your headings and metadata. The most important keywords should be the focus here. You can preview your metadata in advance as it would appear in Google through SERP preview tools such as SEO mofo. If you have a WordPress website then you are going to enjoy the Yoast plugin a lot.
  • Work on your internal link structure. Establish hyperlinks from keywords in your text to other relevant pages within your website.
