Just posting online!
A well-known statement about the difference between good and bad ideas goes something like this:
There are no bad ideas. Only the ideas implemented can become something substantial.
So even if you put down something mediocre in your first blog, that’s not a shame or a “problem. You accomplished something. I hope this blog can encourage you to write your first blog.
The post below appeared as the first “blog” on this website (in 2015).
hello, this is our first post,
this site is clearly under construction and yet online…
authority you have to build, so that’s why this site….
we’re working on it
It was not with the idea of bringing in a lot of traffic, quite the contrary. I was just proud that we had launched the website and our agency had taken off.
It could have been a little more comprehensive, I’m currently working hard on that 😉
Important to ask yourself what you want to achieve with your blog. Just want to get your thoughts out on (digital) paper? Blogging as a kind of diary was very popular when the Internet emerged, meanwhile people often post thoughts on social media and a whole discussion unfolds there. Still, a blog is still useful for jotting down your ideas.
If you are starting blogging to drive traffic to your website through SEO, Inbound or content marketing then the cards are slightly different. We blog to keep traffic to the website and even though I didn’t write extensive blog(s) from the start of this website, I had been thinking mostly about the website structure and content. We posted content online that caused us to now receive daily requests through the website.
If you already have a website, chances are it is built on WordPress, the best-known blogging platform. Even if you don’t have a website you can still use WordPress to start a blog through WordPress.org, other blogging platforms:
In addition to a blogging platform, there are other methods of blogging these days. This mainly through community platforms, this is often a mix between a standard blog platform, a community and a forum, some examples:
If you have your own website, you can still link your blog that is on another platform to your website. This way you don’t have the development cost of a blog on your website but you can still easily make your blog look very nice.
If you want to start writing but you are not a very good writer, it is important to work out your main theme and subthemes in an outline beforehand. Now you have a structure to work on. Next time you stare at your flickering cursor on your screen and have no inspiration you can go back to that.
Not only for your topics also per blog I recommend working out a structure in advance;
This reads so much easier, and once you learn a bit more about copywriting, you can delve further into writing unique titles, for example.
Over time, take your blog in hand and rewrite where necessary. Maybe you have new content or things changed that could make your blog more relevant. Thus, I’ll let this blog rest now and I’ll come back soon with a fresh perspective. In time, I hope to have a valuable article that gets people started with blogging.
